Zaffar Abbas is Editor of Dawn, Pakistan’s most prestigious English language newspaper. In a 32-year career as a journalist he has worked for a number of Pakistani and foreign newspapers, magazines, radio and television, including a 16-year stint for the BBC as one of its Pakistan correspondents.

Abbas has covered all kinds of events in Pakistan and the region, including the rise of armed militants and his brave and independent coverage has drawn the wrath of different militant groups.

One of his main challenges at Dawn has been to introduce new and more innovative ideas to keep the newspaper relevant in a country where nearly two dozen independent television channels now dominate the news agenda, internet-based journalism is growing at a rapid pace, and the social media can no longer be ignored.
