Gregory Kunis has extensive experience in newspaper publishing in both start-up projects and day-to-day management. At age 25, he co-founded The St Petersburg Times in 1993, a free  general interest English-language weekly strong on investigative reporting, setting up the distribution,  advertising and production systems and later taking the sole charge of the paper.

In 2002, he founded a community newspaper, Moi Rayon, leading the paper from launch to being one of the top three newspapers in St.Petersburg and, later, Moscow. Moscow operations were established in 2006.

Kunis has worked as a media consultant, including on youth and management programmes with WAN-IFRA in emerging democracies, and was in charge of a Russian media project of World Bank. Some consulting involved countrywide print media assessments (Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Tajikistan).
