Bobby Schweizer

Co-author of 'Newsgames: Journalism at Play', USA

Bobby Schweizer is a doctoral student in Digital Media at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. For the last four years he has been involved in the Newsgames research project, which looks at how videogames can be used to do journalism. Co-written with Ian Bogost and Simon Ferrari, the book Newsgames: Journalism at Play describes how games, as media native to computers, can be used for more than just revisiting old forms of news production. Games can inform, persuade, and titillate; make information interactive; recreate historical events; put news content into puzzles; teach journalism; and build a community.

Newsgames was awarded a Knight News Challenge 2010 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, to collaborate with the University of California, Santa Cruz on developing a software tool called Cartoonist that will help journalists create games about the news.
