Leader of Entrepreneurial and International Programs, Poynter Institute, USA

Bill Mitchell leads the Entrepreneurial Journalism and International Programs at the Poynter Institute, a non-profit school for Journalists in St. Petersburg, Fl.  
 
Bill joined Poynter in 1999 and directed the Institute's Web site for ten years. He has facilitated workshops on the topics of ethics, leadership and online publishing. He spent the Fall of 2009 as a Fellow at the Shorenstein Center on Press and Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School, where he examined emerging business models for news in the public interest.
 
Before joining Poynter, Bill worked for the new media arm of Universal Press Syndicate (editor and director of development), the San Jose Mercury News (director of electronic publishing), Time Magazine (Detroit bureau chief) and the Detroit Free Press.
 
Mitchell was a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes in 2002 and 2003.
