Inkjet Newspaper Printing

Newspaper printers, as service providers to publishing houses, can use digital printing
to create additional business. Printers can offer new services with short print runs and personalised printing. They might also attract new printing customers, such as event organisers, associations, institutions and ad agencies.

A creative approach is needed

Digital printing enables new business processes. If it enters the newspaper sector, it will not replace another printing process, but open up new business opportunities. Publishing houses, printing plants, distributors and printers are called on to take a creative approach to digital printing, to develop niches, establish new services, and offer innovative and interesting media products that previously were not feasible.

The performance of manroland web systems is described perfectly by Alwin Stadler, head of digital printing as follows: “We establish the post press pro-cessing/inline finishing as the central part of the system in the digital printing sys-tems and additionally ensure integration in the customers workflow.” The results are manifold business models, which are being implemented worldwide by offset as well as digital printers. This digital know-how has been continually developed by manroland web systems and has today been established as the cutting edge com-petence in three distinct fields: Workflow integration, outstanding automation as well as trailblazing hybrid solutions. 30.06.2016 – The world’s first inkjet web printing system with a web width of over 30in (76.2cm), the RotaJET L-Series from Koenig & Bauer (KBA), has been officially certified by the International Association of the Deinking Industry (INGEDE). Test prints with newly developed inks which were used to print on coated stock at this year’s Drupa and were evaluated by INGEDE were shown to be extremely deinkable. Deinking, the process of removing ink or toner from paper, is of great importance when it comes to an orderly recycling chain. “The very good results achieved once again by the high-volume inkjet press from KBA clearly show that it is possible to design inkjet printwork in such a way that they can be easily integrated into existing recycling chains,” says Axel Fischer, expert for recycling print products at INGEDE. RotaColor inks from the previous press series the RotaJET 76 were certified as extremely deinkable in 2014. Read more ...

31.05.2016 – The clear focus on growth markets, such as digital, packaging and industrial functional printing, as well as innovative processes, such as LED-UV printing, defined the Koenig & Bauer Group’s (KBA) trade show stand and press conference at Drupa 2016. This follows the Group restructuring last year. Two announcements made a few days before the start of the trade fair underscore KBA’s goals to systematically expand its already strong position in the diverse packaging market: KBA plans to takeover Spanish die-cutter manufacturer Iberica AG S.A. from the Cerutti Group in Italy and KBA-Sheetfed has joined forces with XEROX Corporation in America to develop a digital B1 sheetfed press, the KBA VariJET 106 Powered by XEROX, for folding carton printing.
