Death threats, physical attacks, an emergence of hate speech and accusations of official censorship of critical media have escalated the perilous situation for freedom of expression in Tunisia. As the political crisis deepens following the assassination of outspoken left-wing political leader Chokri Belaïd, and the resignation on Tuesday 26 February of Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali, attacks against journalists and writers have intensified.

 Dans le sillage des récentes nominations faites par le gouvernement à des postes de direction de médias, ainsi que d'attaques perpétrées contre des journalistes, écrivains et artistes, le Groupe d'observation de la Tunisie organisé par l'Échange international de la liberté d'expression (TMG de l'IFEX), coalition de 21 groupes membres de l'IFEX, exprime sa vive préoccupation face à cette série de reculs que subit la liberté d'expression en Tunisie.  

In the wake of recent government appointments to heads of prominent media outlets, as well as attacks on journalists, writers and artists, the International Freedom of Expression Exchange Tunisia Monitoring Group (IFEX-TMG), a coalition of 21 IFEX members, expresses serious concern over what has been a wave of setbacks for freedom of expression in Tunisia.
