Panel discussions featuring Post Executive Editor Martin Baron and Economics Correspondent Heather Long will be livestreamed on the Washington Post’s website.

January 21, 2019 – Washington Post Executive Editor Martin Baron and Economics Correspondent Heather Long will participate in panel discussions at the 2019 World Economic Forum Annual Conference this week in Davos, Switzerland. The conversations will be livestreamed on The Washington Post’s website and will add to The Post’s planned coverage of the annual meeting of global leaders.

On Tuesday, January 22 at 2 P.M. CET, Washington Post Executive Editor Martin Baron will participate in a discussion on contemporary challenges to a free press. The session titled “Media Freedom in Crisis,” will be moderated by Stephen J. Adler, Editor-in-Chief of Reuters. Other participants will include Aleksander Vučić, President of Serbia; Matthew Caruana Galizia, Director of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation; and Tinatin Kandelaki, General Producer of Russia’s Match TV.

Economics Correspondent Heather Long will moderate a conversation on Wednesday, January 23 at 4 P.M. CET titled “Making Digital Globalization Inclusive.” Panelists include Michael Dell, founder of Dell Technologies; Keith Block, CEO of Salesforce, Michael Froman, Vice Chairman and President of Strategic Growth of Mastercard; Gayle Smith, former USAID administrator; and other top business and development leaders.

Long will also moderate a discussion on modernizing taxation systems titled “Rethinking Taxes: Creating a Fair and Balanced System” on Thursday, January 24 at 3:30 P.M. CET. Panelists for the discussion include Paschal Donohoe, Minister for Finance of Ireland; Mark Pieth, Chairman of the Basel Institute of Governance and others.
