CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) is pleased to invite newspaper and online media managers and editors from select countries in South East Asia and Middle East & North Africa to apply for a groundbreaking new professional development programme.

The WAN-IFRA Media Professionals Programme (MPP) provides mid-level media professionals from the commercial and editorial side of newspapers and online media with personalised, high-impact leadership development opportunities. It equips them with sustainable strategies, skills and support networks to advance their careers and contribute to the growth of financially viable and editorially strong media enterprises in the region.

Media professionals from the following countries are eligible to apply: Cambodia, Myanmar & Vietnam (SEA programme) and Egypt, Libya & Tunisia (MENA programme). Please note the programme is not open to other countries at this time.

Successful applicants will benefit from the following development opportunities as part of the programme:

Participation in three multi-day events between July and December 2012, which include the following components:

1. Individual Coaching to Create a 3-to-5 year Career Action Plan allowing participants to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and how to leverage their networks and attain the necessary skills to advance professionally (4 hours of one-on-one coaching led by trained Career Coaches). 

2. Workshops on Leadership and Media Management Skills allowing participants to benefit from a curriculum specifically designed for the programme by recognised international and regional media experts. (20-25 hours of coursework/home assignments per participant).

3. Sponsored participation in WAN-IFRA events allowing MPP participants to learn about the latest developments in the industry and develop their business networks nationally, regionally and internationally.

The first MPP event for SEA will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam in August 2012. The first MPP event for MENA will take place in Cairo, Egypt in July 2012. Dates and locations for remaining MPP events will be selected to correspond with WAN-IFRA conferences taking place between September and December 2012.

WAN-IFRA will cover all costs in connection to the programme, including travel and accommodation. 

 

Who can apply?

The Media Professionals Programme is open to professionals working for a minimum of two years in middle management positions within newspapers and online media. Successful applicants will already have a certain degree of leadership experience, have room for growth and aspire to progress within the media industry. Excellent English-language skills are a must, since all programme activities are conducted in English. The programme welcomes applicants from all departments of newspapers and online media (editorial, marketing, administration, human resources, accounting, etc.). In total, 20 participants will be selected to participate in 2012. Women in particular are encouraged to apply for the programme. Applications are considered on an individual basis and employment in line with the above-listed criteria does not guarantee admission to the MPP programme. Applications will not be accepted from those working in radio or television at this time.
