The course, part of a joint partnership between the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) and the World Association of Newspapers and Publishers (WAN-IFRA), takes place at the association's training centre, which is becoming the country's leading centre for journalism training.

The first course is entitled Creating a Converged News Operation and will introduce media managers to the concept of setting up a converged newsroom where content is created for use on all devices, from print to mobile and other digital platforms. Other courses with a focus on both editorial and business excellence will follow throughout 2010.

The joint partnership between the VJA and WAN-IFRA will provide Vietnamese media with the latest news from the media industry in an effort to support the development of media in the country.

"The Vietnamese media has undergone important change in recent years. At the same time, there has been a significant change in audience behaviour with the emergence of new ways of consuming news. We are pleased to work with the VJA to take the Vietnamese media to a next level in terms of editorial and product development and to help develop management skills, which are essential to success in any news organisation", said Kajsa Tornroth, Director of Media Development for WAN-IFRA.

The Vietnam Media Partnership is part of a strategic partnership between the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and WAN-IFRA to advance media development worldwide.

The partnership allows WAN-IFRA to broaden its media development activities in Vietnam by helping media leaders build audience trust and loyalty through establishing editorial values and integrity to inform public debate, offer a wider diversity of perspectives and options and create financially independent and sustainable media operations.
